Dr. Elaine Rosen founded California Center for Healthy Living in 2008, armed with fifteen years of experience as a primary care physician and a longstanding vision of a comprehensive treatment center for weight and body image concerns, bridging the paradigms of medical nutrition/ weight management and eating disorders.
A native of Houston, Texas, Dr. Rosen completed her undergraduate degree at Rice University and her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she completed her residency in Pediatrics at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. Following her training, she moved her home base to Tarzana, where she practiced pediatrics from 1993 to 2008.
As far back as 1998, Dr. Rosen saw the need in the community for an approach to the complicated individual, familial and societal issues that surround weight and body image concerns. Frustrated with the lack of time and resources with which to help her patients with these issues, she began the self-education process that ultimately resulted in the formation of CCHL. Important to the formative process was her understanding that, unless the psychological underpinnings of a weight-related concern were addressed, efforts at management would only be temporary and superficial.
Dr. Rosen has had the opportunity to share her experiences and perspectives on many fronts–including as a speaker in community and school forums, a medical lecturer, and as a consulting physician (providing a voice of reason and balance) for several reality television shows. She has been featured in the L.A. Times and the Washington Times. Dr. Rosen has been listed as a Super Doctor for 2012 and 2013 in L.A. Magazine.
Central to her evolution in this arena has been the experience she brings to the table from raising her own four children, who range in age from 12 to 20.
