Nearly 400 years after the early Plymouth Colony settlers celebrated their bountiful harvest with an elaborate 3-day feast, most of us will continue this annual tradition by joining with family and friends to reflect upon our good fortunes while indulging in a traditionally extravagant Thanksgiving meal. As the opening to a holiday season chalked full of delicious culinary temptations, the average plate of our favorite Thanksgiving standards can typically range between 1,700 to 3,000 calories; well over the recommended daily allowance (2,000) for most people. In light of this information, California Center for Healthy Living would like to suggest some helpful tips for making your Thanksgiving holiday a truly happy and healthy one:
Whether anticipating a Thanksgiving feast or just the routine dinner at home, always make sure to eat a wholesome breakfast and lunch. In addition to slowing your metabolism and causing your body to store additional calories, your elevated hunger resulting from missed meals may lead to increased and feverish overeating at dinner, as well as some unwanted grumpiness with those around you.
